Obituary of Eugene Anderson

My Life Story Gene Anderson passed away April 25 at age 90. He joined the SFFD in 1951 and retired in 1982. Eugene Anderson was born in St. Louis, Missouri, but moved to San Francisco, CA with his mother, Carmen, as a baby. He was raised by his step-father, Ray Anderson, who was a mechanic for Yellow Cabs and introduced Gene to auto mechanics. Gene loved to recall adventures with friends buying and fixing up their first cars. Gene joined the San Francisco Fire Department in 1951 and enjoyed the life and camaraderie of the firehouse. He married Diane in 1958. Gene moved with Diane and their two children to Danville, CA in 1969 when that area was still rolling hills. He joined the San Ramon Valley Horseman’s Assn. and enjoyed riding and helping develop trails in the Los Trampas Regional Park. Gene benefited greatly from the industrial and mechanical arts programs that were standard for boys in junior high through high school in American schools at the time. These skills served him wellthroughout his life. Over the years he built additions on two houses and was adept at building, welding and fixing almost anything, even teaching himself horseshoeing. He has left his estate to create a scholarship for students who wish to study industrial and mechanical arts. At this time details of this scholarship trust are in development. In the meantime, the family encourages donations in his name to vocational programs in your area, particularly for inner city youth. Gene passed away peacefully in Idaho where he had relocated five years ago. Divorced, he leaves behind a son, grandson, daughter, as well as a treasured sister and cousins he found via genealogical search later in life. His family extends best wishes and gratitude his kind neighbors in Meridian, Idaho and to the staff at St Alphonsus-Nampa ICU and Sunny Ridge Rehabilitation and Retirement Center..
