Obituary of Janet May Holland

 

 

Janet May Holland passed away with her family nearby on October 11, 2020, in Meridian, Idaho, in her 90th year.

 

Janet Holland is the beloved wife of the late Robert Lee Holland and the late Earl Carson. Much loved mother to Susan Alex, Gary Holland, Kathleen-Cole Giggey (Russell) and Nancy Longworth (Bill).

 

Cherished grandmother of Ginnifer Burns, (Aaron), Geoff Myers, Rose Walker (Chad), Brooke Alex, Russ Giggey Jr., (Gina), Tyler Cole, Kimberlee Rose Giggey, Jordan Giggey, Thomas, Emily and Mary Longworth, and Alaina Holland. Great-grandmother of Tim, Madison, Sydney, and Grayson Walker, Amya Alex, Chastain, Katarina, Savannah, Gabrielle, Olivia, Naomi Burns, five great-great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

 

Janet is one of four sisters, and is preceded in death by daughter Susan Alex, much loved sons-in-laws Russell Giggey Sr., and William Longworth, parents Lovina & Thomas Halverson, sister Marilyn Ramberg (Don), sister Patty Navratil (John) and great-nephew Zach Burke.  She is survived by her oldest sister Arlene Halverson. 

 

Janet was an immaculate homemaker, raising four children and lived in Minnesota, St. Louis, MO., Idaho and northern California.  Her interests included taking piano lessons and enjoying her baby grand piano.  She was a card shark like no other enjoying playing the game of Bridge with her childhood friends.  As quite an accomplished artist, Janet displayed her paintings in local art shows and enjoyed gifting her work to treasured friends and family.  She particularly enjoyed painting nature landscapes, seascapes, and the many vineyards of California. 

 

Snow skiing in Jackson Hole, Wyoming was always a fun family activity.  She was also a reading enthusiast. Her greatest joy, however, was her love of her grandchildren and especially holding and snuggling them as tiny babies.  She enjoyed keeping up with her grandchildren’s accomplishments and their sporting activities, never missing soccer, softball, or baseball games. As an animal enthusiast, she loved Labrador retrievers, Siamese cats, chickens, wildlife and especially wild birds.  She was an avid vegetable gardener growing the world’s best tomatoes and she loved her beautiful flower gardens.

 

She was an excellent cook.  We have never seen, nor will we ever know, anyone who loves all things chocolate more than she did!  We always spoiled her with See’s Candies and many different kinds of chocolate truffles.  She thoroughly loved her Norwegian cousins and gathering for many Christmas or New Year’s holidays celebrating and sharing the Norwegian dinner of Lutefisk! No one ever left her home hungry and she was happiest having her family all under one roof during any occasion available.  Christmastime was most cherished.

 

A life so beautifully lived; a heart so deeply loved.  How we will miss you.  We promise to continue your legacy of good cooking and the cherished gathering of family often.

 

A burial service of limited gathering of family and friends will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota, 7601 34th Ave. So., at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, November 13, 2020.
