Dear family of Dr. Clyde Gerhard:
I'm sorry to be so late with this, and condolences on the loss of Husband / Father / Grandpa.
I'm Steve Hulme, oldest son of Harold Hulme... was talking "doctor stuff" with my daughter who is about a week away from giving birth. Got to wondering if Dr. Gerhard was still around, and somewhat to my dismay, I came across his obituary.
I want to express appreciation for Dr. Gerhard's long professional association with my dad. A fine gentleman, and a great doctor. I can still remember when Dad and Max decided to add a third partner, and Dr. Gerhard fit in so very nicely. His patients seemed to love him, and he definitely was an asset to their practice together. I had the good fortune of crossing paths with him now and then, when visiting Dad down at 121 East Fort Street. (That will always be HALLOWED GROUND for me.)
I'm so glad that station wagon ended up in Boise!
(Just by coincidence, I have a grandson named Clyde. His older sister is named Bonnie.)
May the Good Lord give you peace and comfort. I imagine the holidays won't be the same without your "pater familias" readily available, but I have confidence we can all be together again "up yonder."

Dr. Gerhard was my OB/GYN from 1972 until his retirement. I found him by asking a nurse who she would recommend, because the nurses know who the best docs are. Without hesitation, she said "Dr. Gerhard". Dr. G. shepherded me through some scary reproductive health issues and my first, high-risk pregnancy as well as my second, not-so-eventful one. He always listened and patiently answered all of my questions; he would even follow the Q&A by telling me the questions I had not thought to ask and then answering those as well. He was knowledgeable, calm and confident; he was kind and caring and funny. When I was pregnant with my first child, because we didn't want to refer to the baby as "it" or even pick a gender reference, we called her Clyde. At Christmas that year('81), we hung a tiny stocking for Clyde. When she was born 3 weeks later, it was difficult to tell who was more joyful... us or Dr.G. He clearly loved that part of his work.
I adored Dr. Gerhard and was eternally grateful to the nurse who gave me his name. When I opened to the obits on Wednesday and saw that warm, smiling face, I hugged my paper and cried. Even though he has not been part of my life for many years, the world will seem emptier knowing that an extraordinary human being is no longer among us. My condolences to all those who loved him, a list that I am certain extends well beyond the names of family noted in his obit. I hope my story brings a smile to your faces and little bit of peace to your hearts.

I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to thank Dr. Gerhard in person for helping to bring me into the world 48 year’s ago. The last visit I had with him in the CIC unit of SLCI was one of the best we were talking about fishing. The ones we’ve caught and the ones that got away.
Thank you to all his family for sharing with the rest of the world such a kind man.
