Obituary of AVadna Hansen

AVadna L. Hansen, 96, of Boise, formerly of Chesterfield, Idaho, passed away October 27, 2021. Vadna was born in Bluebell, Utah on August 30, 1925 to parents, George Russell Roper and Chlowie Anderson Roper. She was the second of four children.

Vadna grew up during the depression. While walking to school her brother would carry a rifle looking for rabbits and grouse to shoot for their evening meal. The family moved several times after Bluebell living in Bingham, Utah; Tremonton, Utah; the rural area of Toponce (Chesterfield) in Caribou County Idaho.

While living in Caribou County, Vadna became good friends with Mike Shipley, whom she later married on June 20, 1941 at the age of 16. Mike and Vadna made their home on farmland near the homestead where they raised their three children, Brent, Jay and Brenda.

At one point in their lives, Vadna and Mike took a break from farming and ranching and purchased a home in Lava Hot Springs. Where they lived until Mike’s passing with the exception of few months living in a travel trailer in Las Vegas. After Mike passed in 1977, in she moved to Boise, in 1979 to be closer to family. While in Boise, Vadna spent her days gardening, traveling and vacationing with Brenda and her family. Also while in Boise, she reconnected with a family friend, Max Hansen Whom she later married. After Max passed she went back to Lava Hot Springs for a visit and ended up living there for a few more years. Vadna live on her own until the age of 80 when due to health issues she needed to move back to Meridian where she lived the rest of her life.

Vadna is survived by her children: Brent Shipley, of Lava Hot Springs and Brenda (Norm) Marcum, of Meridian; grandchildren: Jodi (Ray) Gorham, Sandi (Kevin) Kinghorn, Andrea (Alan) Furrows, Michael (Alicia) Shipley, Casey Shipley,  Janea (Daina) Sites; step grandchildren: Coral (David) Jillson; 23 great grand children; brother Golden (Shirley) Roper, and Connard (Jean) Roper

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Foster “Russ” Roper; son, Jay Shipley; and granddaughter Sammy Shipley.
