Obituary of Jean Schauer, OCDS

Jean Kay Schauer - Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites - OCDS

                                                            Trophy Wife of 57 years

Jean Kay has been the light of our lives and the backbone of our family since our wedding day. Losing Jean so soon after losing Richard is an unbelievable pain for our family that is impossible to fathom. My only consolation is that the pain our family feels on earth is off set by the joy that Jean Kay and Richard James feel talking and hugging each with a loving Jesus, smiling at them and our family.

It is hard to know who you want to spend the rest of your life within High School. It happened to me one day when Jean came up to me in tears and could not speak. It was easy to know why. Jean had tried “Man Tan” (Google it) and looked like a bleached-out zombie. Of all the places she could have gone, she came to me. I was hooked. I remember snarling at people who went by and laughed. “What are you looking at?” I was a Senior and she was a sophomore. The class of 1962 was a very cool class.

Jean took care of Richard, our oldest son, for years until she could no longer physically do it. She fed him when she could and mothered him until the day he died in July 26, of 2021. She was holding his hand and praying for him when he died. Jean also was immensely proud of James, Richard’s son, and the man he is becoming. She was still in mourning for Richard when she died.

Jean has always been super proud of Jason and the life he and Cari have built together. They are exceptionally good people. Jean went to many of Jason’s plays and concerts and marveled at his talent. We move to Idaho to be near the grandkids, but COVID and her health got in the way.

Amy has been a lifeline to Jean for several years. Because of Amy’s efforts Jean lived a longer and better life. Amy took Jean when she did not want to go out. Jean always came back very tired and appreciative of Amy. Amy is the super daughter all mothers pray for.

Jean was a no apology big d Democrat for life. She could not understand why many of our politicians cannot be more kind to the people they represent. She loved being in the Saint Gregory 9:00 choir and missed it terribly when we moved to Idaho. She was extremely proud to be an OCDS member and followed the practices up to her death. The best thing Richard Franklin Schauer has done in his life was to marry Jean Kay Vockroth Schauer OCDS.

Each night I would play a song that summed up our family’s love for Jean Kay. 57 Years married to Jean Kay Vockroth Schauer was much too little time.
