Obituary of Richard Neal Scrivner

     Rich Scrivner, age 72, born in Boise, ID to Ann and Neal Scrivner on July 16, 1949, passed away peacefully at his home in Caldwell, ID on July 2, 2022. 

 

     The way he passed is just like he lived - he wrote his own rules, fought authority, and paved his own way. The law never applied in Rich’s world! I can imagine his friends experienced an evening out with Rich, including burnouts through bars on their Harleys, and maybe spent the night in jail…or ended up with a killer hangover. 

 

     Rich’s biggest love was drag racing. He was the Top Comp Eliminator track champion at Firebird in 1983, which was no easy feat. After crashing his ‘55 Chevy, he borrowed cars to finish the year and stay on top of the points. Rich continued drag racing off and on until 2019. Rich always reminded us that “drag racing is far out!” 

 

     Rich also loved big game hunting, as well as bird hunting with his beloved Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, many of which were rescues and hit the jackpot once they moved into his home. 

 

     Rich worked hard as an owner/operator well driller for many years in the Treasure Valley and most recently in the Malta/Burley area. Prior to this, he served in the Idaho Army National Guard, worked for the railroad, worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator, and even dabbled in real estate. 

 

     Rich is survived by his daughter, Kimberly, of Dallas, TX, his son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Missy, of Boise, ID, his brother, Brian, of AZ, 6 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren, as well as many lifelong friends that he considered family. 

 

     The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of Idaho Home Health & Hospice for the amazing care and attention they gave to Rich over the past several months. We would also like to thank Rich’s good friends, Marie and Joe, for the love, care, and attention they provided when hospice couldn’t be there. You both are true angels and we appreciate you more than we could ever express. 

 

     A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Chesapeake Bay Retriever Relief & Rescue (cbrrescue.org), Idaho Humane Society, or Racers for Christ  (https://teamrfc.org/donate-2/).
