Obituary of Dorothy Jane Mc Hail

Mc Hail, Dorothy, 82, of Meridian, died, Friday, August 12, 2022 at a local care facility. Services are under the direction of Accent Funeral Home and Cremation, Meridian.

Dorothy Jane McHail, 83, of Meridian, Idaho died August 12, 2022 peacefully in her sleep, lovingly surrounded by her family. Her death was primarily from complications sustained from prolonged illness.

Dorothy Jane Shannon (Dolly), is the youngest daughter of George and Agnes Shannon of Munster, PA. She was the middle child of 5 siblings, with an adored older sister Patricia, and three loving brothers, Joseph, George Jr., and James.

After her youth in Pennsylvania as a coal mining engineer’s daughter, and her high school graduation in 1957, Dolly majored in Medical Dietary Sciences at Indiana State Teachers College in Indiana, PA, before marrying her high school sweetheart William Arthur McHail Jr., (Tony). Now wed to a United States Air Force Airman, they traveled the world in service to their country. Tony’s duties began as an Air Force Medical Corpsman, and later blossomed into that of a highly decorated, Distinguished Medical Service Corps Officer. After 35 years of service, they retired from the Air Force and settled in Idaho with their two sons and their families.

During their 62 year marriage, Mom was the keystone of our family, a tireless nurturer, and a friend to all. She was truly a mother to everyone she met, and a stranger to no one.

In addition to her love of listening to Tony play piano professionally over the years, Mom spent her favorite “spare” time fishing, feeding, and traveling with the family. As “Nana” and “Meemaw”, she loved to cook, paint, and teach reading, “Grandma and Pap” were devoted sports fan of all things Pittsburgh. Mom was an insatiable historian of family history and artifacts.

Dorothy is survived by her youngest brother, James Shannon (Jim), her two sons: William Arthur 3rd (Butch), and John Francis (Jack), and their wives Janelle and Roxanne              respectively.  “Grandma” is so proud of her three grandchildren from Butch and Janelle’s    family: Katherine (Kate), William Arthur 4th (Tony), and Timothy (Tim). Her three wonderful great grandchildren: Annabelle Lynn, Judy Evelyn, and Everett William, and step grandchildren: Maximus, Allison, and Brooklyn will always hold a special place in “Nana’s” heart.

From Jack and Roxanne’s family, her loving step grandchildren: Kasie, Kevin, and Kovie, and the step great grandchildren: Dylan, Aurelius, Malaisha, Zakiya, will all love their “Meemaw” eternally.

Whether known as “Dolly”, “Mom”, “Grandma”, “Nana”, or “Meemaw”, we all know that she loves us all, and most certainly cannot be replaced or duplicated. She is truly a giant among the angels, and an undying source of love for the ages.

The family would like to thank the Creekside team. The care and comfort provided by this group of professionals enabled Dorothy to be constantly surrounded by her family during her illness and final days.

A funeral mass will be held at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 6300 N. Meridian Road on Friday, August 26, 2022, at 10 am. The viewing will begin at 9:30 am prior to the Mass. Her final resting place will be the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 N. Horseshoe Bend Road.

At this place, Dolly will spent eternity next to our other giant, her best friend, and the love of her life, Tony.

Heavenly bouquets of yellow roses will adorn this Holy place.

Godspeed Dolly…forever for sure.
