Bobby Cherry

Obituary of Bobby Dave Cherry

Bobby Dave Cherry, son of Melvin Cherry and Edna Burrow, was born on September 11, 1938 in Bakersfield, CA and passed away on December 14, 2022 in Boise, ID.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Emilie Cherry, and his grandson Ethan Cherry.
He is survived by his three children: Darrel Cherry of Boise, ID (wife Michelle and daughter Audrey), Steven Cherry of Boise, ID, and Laura Cherry of Pleasant Hill, CA.

Bob was a dedicated husband and father, always making time for his kids, being at every soccer, little league, and softball game to support and encourage them. In the same way, Bob was very active with his grandkids, spending time with them and attending all their events.

As a young man, Bob was drafted into the Army. Although he went through much training, he was never deployed. After his service, Bob worked most of his life as a mechanical engineer for the Link division of Singer, which developed flight simulators for the military. He worked on simulators for aircraft like the B2 stealth bomber and the Apache helicopter.

Bob always had a love for flight and owned every flight simulator Microsoft developed, and he would spend hours flying all over the world. He also loved trains, and spent numerous hours and days building model railroads. In his last home he built a specific train room the size of two bedrooms that was filled edge to edge with his multi-train layout.

Bob was also a prolific storyteller, and anyone that knows Bob or spent time with him knows this so well. His stories could be long and sometimes unending, but he captivated people with his knack for the detail and specifics of his life experiences.

A funeral service with military honors for Bob is scheduled on Thursday, January 5th at 1pm at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.
