Brent Seid

Obituary of Brent William Seid

Brent William Seid — pilot, entrepreneur, wonder-seeker — left this world March 7th, 2023, aged 42.

Brent was born to Norm and Sharon Seid June 1, 1980 in Boise, Idaho. He was the fourth of five children. Walking at barely 9 months, Brent, from the start, was eager to get up and go, go, go.

He grew up in the Treasure Valley, attending Mary McPherson Elementary, then Lake Hazel Middle, where he became a favorite student of Claudia Watts. She remained a mentor to Brent long after he left her classroom. He finished his secondary education at Jefferson Academy in Nampa, Idaho in 1998.

He caught the flying bug after his dad bought him a private lesson for his 16th birthday. This “flying fever” inspired him to repaint and reorganize the wind direction indicators at the Caldwell airport as part of his Eagle Scout project. Completing that project and receiving his Eagle Scout in 1998 was one of Brent's proudest achievements. He obtained his private pilot’s license in the same year, at 18.

At 24, he went to the Delta Flight Academy in Florida to pursue a professional career in aviation. From there he spent 8 years flying the Alaskan bush for Yute Air, eventually returning to the lower 48 to fly for Life Flight, SP Aircraft, Jackson Jet Service, and Great West Casualty. On top of his pilot’s certifications, he was also a licensed aviation mechanic.

Brent was a skilled welder and fabricator, a talent he turned into the business, Upright Construction and Welding. If you had a hard-to-replace metal part you needed recreated or you needed an old hunk of machinery fixed, Brent was who you called.

He loved flying. But for those that loved him, he was — and always will be — more than a pilot. He’ll be long remembered as a beloved son, brother, friend, and partner. Brent, we promise to “keep the shiny side up” until we meet again.

Brent is survived by his parents, Norm and Sharon Seid; sisters, Neva (Joseph) Cottam, Natalie Seid, and brother, Duane Seid; and his girlfriend Amanda Davison, and her children, Scarlett and Pierce. He was preceded in death by his brother, Alan Seid.

A memorial will be held at the Church Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 12040 W Amity Rd, Boise, ID 83709, on Tuesday, March 14th at 11 a.m. Guests are welcome to arrive as early as 10 a.m. to greet family. Remembrances may be left for the family on Brents webpage at www.AccentFuneral.com.
