Obituary of Clifford Joseph Sachs

Clifford Joseph Sachs passed away November 14, 2023, at Touchmark Memory Care after battling Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

Born in Newark, New Jersey, on November 15, 1928, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Strubel) Sachs.  He was a graduate from Irvington High School, and then served his country in the Army during the Korean War, from 1951 to 1953, as a paratrooper in the 503^rd Airborne Infantry Regiment, of the 11^th Airborne Division.  He was a life member of the 11^th Airborne Division Association and served on the Board of Directors.

Cliff was a Principial Staff Systems Analyst with Public Service Electric & Gas Company in Newark NJ, where he worked for 35 and a half years before retiring in 1988.  It was there he met his future wife Retta (Gustus), and they married in 1958.  They lived in Irvington before moving to Rockaway Township in 1961.  In 2015, they relocated to Meridian Idaho to be closer to their son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Cliff was an active honorary life member and Past Grand Knight of Lafayette Council #514 in Dover, NJ.  He was also an honorary life member of the Walter J Barrett General Assembly, 4^th degree Knights of Columbus, in Boonton NJ.  He served as chairman of many committees and volunteered for numerous activities for over 50 years.

Cliff was a parishioner at St. Paul the Apostle in Irvington, NJ; Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dover, NJ for 54 years; and Holy Apostles Catholic Church in Meridian ID.  He served as an usher, treasurer, and community chair for Catholic fundraising for over 70 years.

Cliff was an avid stamp collector and member of the American Philatelic Society and Universal Ship Cancellation Society.

Cliff was predeceased by his beloved wife (Retta) of 62 years and is survived by his son Mark (Patricia), grandchildren Katrina (Steve), Brian, Joel, Todd (Amanda), and four great-grandchildren, Kai, Ava, Amberlea and Kassidy.

A viewing will be held at Accent Funeral Home on Monday, November 27th, from 5:00-7:00 pm.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, November 30th, at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, in Meridian Idaho at 11:00 am.  Services are under the care of Accent Funeral Home.
