Alexander Lake

Obituary of Alexander Thomas Lake

Native Michigander and adopted son to the Pacific Northwest, Alexander Thomas Lake
passed away unexpectedly in Boise, Idaho on January 17th, 2024 at the age of 37. Alex was born at the Community Health Center of Branch County on May 7th, 1986 in Coldwater, Michigan to parents Edward C. Lake Jr., MD of Coldwater and Karen Ann (née Foren) Lake, PhD of Issaquah, WA.
He attended Coldwater High School in Coldwater, Michigan, graduating in 2004. At 20 years old, Alex made a cross-country move to Seattle, where he enjoyed the nearby company of his brothers, sister, and mother. He was later admitted to the University of Washington in Seattle and graduated in 2020, attaining distinction in his completion of dual-degrees: a Bachelor of Arts in Medical Anthropology and Global Health, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Applying to medical school thereafter, Alex was admitted to the Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine in Boise, where he was pursuing his dream of becoming a physician with an interest in specializing in either emergency or pediatric medicine.
Very fond of his childhood in Michigan, Alex spent numerous summers in and around
Leelanau County, often swimming, sailing, or skiing with his family. He loved traveling and
visited several foreign countries with friends and family, enjoying many cultures and creating fond memories. As an adult, Alex enjoyed jogging, swimming, and biking in the Seattle Green Lake area, often joined by one of the many friends he made so easily. An avid outdoorsman, he was often hiking, camping, and exploring the mountains, forests, and waters around the Pacific Northwest. He held a deep sense of appreciation and respect for the beauty of the land and nature surrounding him.
Alex was a deeply caring, empathetic, and nurturing soul. He often volunteered at local health clinics, fostered many pets for adoption, and participated in one of his favorite experiences of working with children and providing a strong role model through a natural ability to connect with, mentor, teach, and care for some amazing kids from local Seattle families. Words are unable to describe how much they will miss him.
Alex is survived by both his loving parents and his four adoring and heartbroken siblings: Edward Lake III,  Jeffrey Lake, and Julianne Lake (all of Seattle, WA), and Erin (Adrien) Lake of Sevres, France; an infant nephew, Gabriel Henry You; and several loving cousins, uncles, and aunts.
