Obituary of Lonnie Joe Schmidt
Lonnie was born on November 15, 1939, in Deshler, Nebraska, and departed this life on February 6, 2024, at Nampa, Idaho. He attended schools in Deshler and Superior, Nebraska, with college education in Lincoln, Nebraska. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy. In 1959, he married Irene Howe. After being discharged, they settled in Idaho. Initially engaging in farming, he later entered the mobile home industry. He worked for Fleetwood Industries (Broadmore Homes) in Nampa, and subsequently at Marlette Homes in Hermiston, Oregon. He became very proficient at starting and rebuilding plants, as he always loved a challenge. He concluded that career in Missouri, where he started his own construction company with his son, Joey.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; son, Joey; grandson, Cody; granddaughter, Kali; sister, Linda Kerr; sister, Lanae McLaughlin; numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosie Ambrose; father, Ude Schmidt; four brothers—Leverl, Darrel, Roy, and Milton; sister, Nancy; nephew, Curtis Hanson; and brothers- and sisters-in-law.
He left this world as a result of Alzheimer’s disease, and per his request, his body was donated to science. The excellent care he received at Mountain View Nursing granted us more precious time with him. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time.
