Patti Flavel

Obituary of Patti Flavel

Patricia May Flavel, at 85 years of age, left her earthly family to join her heavenly family on the evening of February 16, 2024, losing an 11-year battle with bone cancer.

Patty was born Patricia May Butler, March 8, 1938 to James Ray and Juanita (Coy) Butler in Lone Jack, Missouri. The family moved to Idaho in 1948 residing in the Ten Mile and Kuna areas. Patty went to school in a variance of small schools. Ten mile, Kuna Mora, etc. and graduated from Kuna High School 1956.

Growing up she loved the outdoors and spent much time riding her horse, sometimes ranging as far as Owyhee to visit a lifelong friend, Marian Crowder.

Shortly after high school she married Ron Haulman. With Ron being in the Air Force they resided in many places from Florida to Sacramento, California. Patti worked for the California Almond Growers in Sacramento for 13 years packaging Blue Diamond Almonds. She moved back to Kuna in 1979 to be near her parents.

While working at the co-op in Kuna she met Marvin Flavel and they married on March 21, 1981. After short while she retired to being a homemaker. Well, that lasted only a short while. She became bored and began volunteering at Mercy Hospital. Soon, she became a salaried employee in the medical records department. This led to jobs as a receptionist for various doctors in the area. Later, she signed on to copy medical records for release of information and this turned into a supervisory position where she traveled a great deal over the western US.

She liked to knit and made many sweaters. Early in her time with Marv, they followed high school sporting events where she became known as a highly respected critic of sport officials. Also, being a food critic, she could tell you the name and location of every restaurant west of the continental divide and what she ate there.

In the early 1980s she became fond of Murray Grey beef cattle and if you didn’t know, she would tell you all about them. She began showing them at fairs, first in Blackfoot at the Eastern Idaho State Fair, then branched out to the Spokane Interstate Fair, Clark County Fair, Washington (just north of Portland), Linn County Fair (Albany), Oregon, Wyoming State Fair in Casper, and finally the Western Idaho State Fair in Boise.

One of her most fulfilling accomplishments was her time on the board of the Kuna rural fire district. Even though she learned the ins-and-outs of firefighting, they never let her drive the trucks.

Patty is survived by her husband, Marv; sons: Landis (LoRee) Haulman, Douglas Haulman, and Brian Haulman; step-children: Crystal Turner, Sherry (Randy) Wolske, Lori (Dave Jr.) Doan, Jerry (Alicia) Flavel, and, as you might guess, a whole slew of grandkids, great grandkids, and a few great great grandkids.

A celebration of life will be held at 11  am Tuesday, February 27th, 2024 at Ten Mile Community Church 4440 E. Columbia Rd. Meridian, ID 83642.
