Obituary of William Wyatt Colson

William “Bill” Wyatt Colson, age 79 formerly of Meridian, Idaho passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday, February 15, 2024 with family by his side. Bill was born the oldest of 4 children to Steven Colson and Florence Dansereau in Boise, Idaho in 1944. At the age of 25, he married the love of his life, Lynn Carol Jones, and together had three children: Allen, Carol, and Kathleen.

Bill graduated from Boise High School in 1963 and attended Boise State University working on an engineering degree. After high school, he worked for the Soil Conservation Service and Intermountain Gas, before starting his career with the City of Boise, which he retired from in 2008. During this time, Bill and Lynn operated an ambulance company as Certified Ambulance Technicians. Shortly after high school, Bill joined the Bogus Basin Ski Patrol with Lynn by his side and also volunteered weekends at Owyhee Motorcycle’s Peaceful Cove Track in Boise, providing medical services in the early 80’s.

Bill was a highly active child growing up from going hunting every year, fishing when the opportunity lent itself, to being a boy scout and hanging out with family. He loved his family and took every opportunity to do things together with them, such as endurance racing, he was a 4-H dad and a leader of the Bandits 4-H Riding Club, a proud parent of 3 FFA kids, many hunting trips and spending time with his grandchildren.

Bill would continue his community involvement working with the City of Boise on the Boise River Festival for 5 years, and joining CAP when his son joined the military in 1992. In the years to follow, Bill and Lynn would go on to become prominent fixtures within CAP with his appointment of Commander for the Boise Squadron, several Idaho Wing positions, and multiple Search and Rescue missions over his 25 years of involvement. He absolutely loved spending time with kids and seeing them achieve their goals. Bill led a very fulfilling life, one that was filled with adventure and lasting memories for everyone to cherish and pass on.

Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Lynn, along with his parents, Florence May and Leon Dansereau. Bill is survived by his son, Allen Colson (Shannon); daughters, Carol Abbott (Tom) and Kathleen Mautz; 4 grandchildren: Austin, Charleston, Kaylina, Wyatt; brothers: Al and Chris Colson; sister, Debbie Haven; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for March 17, 2024 from 2:00-4:00 pm at The Farm, located at 5137 N. Glenwood St, Garden City, ID 83714. An online guest book through AccentFuneral.com has been created in Bill’s honor for family and friends to sign.
